Mr. Ben Thacker
My name is Ben Thacker, and I’m one of the Career Prep instructors at Auburn Junior High School. I graduated from Georgia State University with my B.S. in Education, then went to the University of Georgia to get my M.Ed., followed by receiving a Specialist in Education from Valdosta State University in 2012.
I began teaching school in 1981, and retired in 2021 after teaching for 30 years in Georgia. There was also a 10-year period during which I was a Youth Pastor. After retiring from teaching, I moved to AJHS and started teaching 9th grade Career Prep in 2022. I have coached various sports successfully (basketball, soccer, volleyball) and won the Georgia AAAA High School Volleyball championship in 2010. I enjoy serving students as they discover various career options, helping them locate employment resources, develop "real-life skills" and learning to use technology. My wife and children are a special joy to me and I treasure every moment I can have with them.
I enjoy being outside, running, playing guitar, raising chickens, and also English Bulldogs as a part of our foundation (David's Hope) in honor of our son David, who passed away in 2018.
