My name is Debbie Brooks and I am honored to serve Auburn City Schools as principal at Pick Elementary. I am in my 30th year as an Alabama educator. I spent 16 years as a classroom teacher in grades 1st-6th. My philosophy is deeply rooted in my beliefs that all children can succeed when provided the appropriate support, tools and room to explore, investigate and discover on their own the many wonders of our world. I support inquiry-based instruction and work closely with teachers to support this level of teaching daily in our classrooms. I believe that parents play a critical role in the success of our school and I welcome your time, talent and treasures to strengthen our program at Pick Elementary.
Leadership is our focus at Pick Elementary. We are working through a variety of strategies to encourage students to use their leadership skills to navigate through their daily lives. We use the book The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey to provide a framework for students to use. We invite you to learn more about this book and the 7 Habits so you can support your child in finding those leadership traits that support our total school program.
I encourage and invite you to visit Pick Elementary this year! We offer many opportunities for you to be involved. It is important that we all share in the responsibility of shaping our young people to be productive citizens. Setting a positive example is the best way to do that! I hope you will join me as we work together to make this a fantastic year at PES!
