• Letter from Principal - Dr. Duriel Barlow

Welcome to J.F. Drake Middle School, the collaborative community navigating students through educational and social transitions, to ensure each student develops the confidence, character, and skills to become independent thinkers. We pride ourselves on a strong culture of caring, learning, and high expectations.

Children in the “middle years” have distinct educational, psychological, and social needs. Our purpose as a middle school is to meet these unique needs, to ease and celebrate the transition from childhood to adolescence, and to bridge the span from the elementary school to the high school. We bridge the gap by placing each student on an academic team to create a family within a large school.

We invite you to become an active participant in our school community whether you volunteer to help with team events, join PTO, chaperone a field trip, or attend and support other school events. Research clearly supports that when parents/guardians participate and are involved in their child’s education, there is a greater likelihood of academic success for the child.

As we know, there are many issues that may present themselves to our children in their everyday living. We, as caregivers and educators, work to protect our children, but we must also teach them how to successfully approach stressful situations that may arise at school, home, or a socially. Keeping the lines of communication open is essential to the success of our children.

We are looking forward to a fantastic year at J.F. Drake Middle School. Let’s make this the best year ever by working together for our students!
