Overview of the DMS School Counseling Program
J. F. Drake Middle School's School Counseling Program's mission statement is:
- To appropriately educate the whole child through innovation and active engagement by promoting success, excellence, passions, and integrity for each student to excel academically, socially, professionally, and emotionally.
- To advocate for students and collaborate with stakeholders is a portion of this undertaking with the purpose of eliminating barriers, ensuring equity and access, and promoting meaningful change, all within the context of a school counseling program.
- To empower all students to identify their personal strengths and assets and acquire interpersonal skills needed to effectively interact through confidence, character, and proficiency as accomplished and contributing members of our ever-changing and diverse society.
This mission ultimately strives to inspire all students to be honest and determined in bridging interests and abilities with future career choices, fostering lifelong learners.
In order to meet these needs, our school counselors provide guidance through individual counseling/planning, small group counseling, large group and classroom guidance, and parent/teacher consultation. Additionally, the counselors coordinate school-wide programs designed to enhance student awareness, success, and encourage family involvement in the learning process.
