Mrs. Susan Shonk, Assistant Principal

Dear Explorer Families,

It is my privilege to serve as the assistant principal of Cary Woods Elementary. I am incredibly honored to lead alongside Mr. Anderson at CWE. We are extremely fortunate to serve such a supportive community of dedicated teachers, involved parents, and diverse learners.

During my 28-year career as an educator, I have served Auburn students at Pick Elementary, teaching 3^rd and 4^th grade. Prior to moving to Auburn in 2014, I taught Kindergarten, 1^st, and 2^nd grade in Houston County, Georgia. I received my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southern University. Go Eagles! I attained a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Troy University and a 6-year Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University. More recently, I obtained National Board Certification in the area of Middle Childhood Generalist. My husband, Chet and I have 4 children, Logan, Addie, Lauren, and Emily Ann. 

I believe that every child is worthy of love, commitment, and opportunity. I strive to serve and work alongside the most amazing team of teachers to offer a welcome and safe environment where our students will learn and grow.  Thank you for sharing your precious children with us, and I look forward to serving each of you!  Here’s to a wonderful and successful school year!
