Mrs. Brittany Handley

Hi! My name is Brittany Handley. This will be my sixth year as the school counselor at AEEC. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Auburn University and a Master of Education in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama.  This is my 18th year in education. I taught Kindergarten for four years in Roanoke City Schools and I taught 1st grade for eight years at Cary Woods Elementary School.

School counselors foster the academic, social/emotional and career development of students throughout their academic careers.  Our goal is to support students in reaching their full academic potential and have a positive school experience.  School counselors work with students, parents and staff members to help students be successful in the classroom environment.  Counseling services include classroom guidance lessons, individual and small group sessions, and crisis counseling.  Counselors act as a liaison, providing information and resources with school-based support teams and outside agencies.

Auburn City Schools offers school-based mental health services for students with significant issues that impede classroom learning.  For more information about this service, please contact me or one of our administrators.

Classroom guidance lesson topics: Skills for school success, personal safety, interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships, careers, character development, school transitions, and more.

Individual and small groups address topics such as: organizational skills, changing families, anxiety, test-taking skills, self-esteem, social skills, and more.
