Alabama Literacy Act

The Alabama Literacy Act (AL-HB388)  went into effect during the 2020-2021 school year. Alabama Legislators voted to delay retention of 3rd grade students until the 2023-2024 school year. The Literacy Act includes strategies, incentives, and interventions specific to the science of reading for grades K-3.

    • Parent and School partnerships are funametal to student success. The Alabama State Department of Education along with guidance from the Alabama Reading Initative (ARI) department suggests building a strong foundation in the following areas: Phonological Awareness, Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension to support your child's litearcy learning.
