Mrs. Betsy Reaves
I graduated from Auburn University in 1996 with a BA degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Middle School Mathematics. In 1999, I earned a MA degree in Elementary Education from The University of Alabama at Birmingham while teaching at Crestline Elementary School in Mountain Brook, AL. I began my teaching career at Crestline as a teacher's aide in Special Education. My responsibilities soon grew, leading to an emergency-hire position as a Special Education resource teacher and later, three years of teaching 3rd grade. After getting married and moving to my husband's hometown of Camden, AL, I taught 2nd grade at Wilcox Academy, technology at Thomasville Elementary, and 8th grade Pre-Algebra at Thomasville Middle School, before moving to Auburn in 2001. At that time, I began teaching math and language arts in 6th and 7th grades at Drake Middle School until my daughter was born in 2004. While at home raising my children for seven years, I was a math tutor for middle school students at AJHS. I returned to the classroom in 2011 and have been teaching Algebra and/or Pre-algebra at AJHS, ever since. I still feel extremely honored to be teaching in Auburn City Schools, helping children grow in their knowledge and confidence in mathematics. In addition to providing math instruction, my goal, as a teacher, has always been to lead by example in the classroom while further developing honorable, respectful, kind, helpful, responsible, confident (but humble) individuals who are ready for life in high school and beyond.
