All About Me
My name is Laura McGilberry and I am the Media Specialist at Yarbrough
Elementary in Auburn, Alabama. I wanted to be a teacher from the moment I
got my first baby doll. I would spend my days teaching the baby doll how
to read. It wasn't until I went to school some years later that I realized
that I didn't know how to read. After graduation, I started college at Covenant College in Chattanooga, TN.
After three years and a semester abroad, I transferred to Jacksonville State
University in Jacksonville, AL. I graduated in December of 2003. In January of
2004, I took over a second grade class at Oxford Elementary. Then, I
taught third grade at Oxford Elementary in Oxford, Alabama (2004-2005
school year). In 2005, I moved here to Auburn and taught fourth
grade at Yarbrough. I really enjoyed working with my fourth graders but
second grade is where I thrive. I spent two wonderful years in second
grade here at Yarbrough. In the summer of 2007, I completed my Master's in
Media Specialty. I love the avenues this new area of study has opened up.
Since having my first child, I have decided that it is time to pack up the
classroom and head down another new avenue. I can't wait to see where this
job will lead!
