August-08 Assignments and Mini Projects  Calendar

(Remember dates may be changed as needed)

Unit 1 Mini Projects Due September 2^nd 2008.

You need a total of 30 points:

1.    Interview questions: Make up 10 questions you might ask a visitor from another country. These questions must come from the 5 fields of social studies. (10 points)

2.    Create a Geography dictionary Booklet using 5x8 Index cards. Illustrate one physical feature per card.  Illustrate, draw a picture of the term on the card. Use 20 terms. (20 points).

3.    On ¼ poster Board, draw cut out pictures that would illustrate and teach each of the 5 themes of Geography. 10 points

4.    On ¼ Poster Board create a Poster showing the rights and responsibilities of a citizen 10 points

5.    With 3 classmates create a skit and act out “The Giant Kuafu Chases the Sun” (pages 28-29) complete with props and peaches for the class. 20 points

6.    On ¼ poster board draw (illustrate) four natural regions of the world (page 38) include a specific country that the region can be found 20 points

7.    On ¼ poster board draw a map of the route you take to the mall. Use the names of streets, landmarks such as shops and other buildings, and any other useful information. (20 points)

8.      Research Global Warming, and the technology we are using.  Give details and find out what it is, and what people are doing about it 2 pages minimum. Read your report to the class (30 points)

9.      Research 3 Olympic events: share in class

·         Tell who won the gold in each event for the 2000, 2004, 2008 summer Olympics.

·         Tell which countries the winners were from(30 points)

10.                  Suggest something you would like to do for 30 points to Mrs. Mays by August 22nd
