Meet the Lion Teachers...

Mrs. McKinnon, Mrs. Vakakes, Mrs. Dyer, & Mrs. Ferguson

Mrs. Katie Dyer ~ Mrs. Dyer is beginning her third full year as a sixth grade teacher at Drake Middle School. Since teaching at Drake, Mrs. Dyer has been a math and language arts teacher for the Lions and the Cosmic Cats. Mrs. Dyer is originally from Pensacola, FL, but she has made Auburn her home since 1996. Her husband of 6 years, Joe, teaches art at Auburn High School, and she has a new baby named Jacks who will turn 1 on October 12th.

Mrs. Jenny Ferguson ~ This will be Mrs. Ferguson’s first year teaching at Drake Middle School.  Mrs. Ferguson joined the Drake team after completing her internship with the Bearcats of 7^th grade last spring.  She is elated to be a member of the Language Lions, and cannot wait to meet all of her new students.  Mrs. Ferguson graduated from Auburn University in May 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education.  She was a member of the Auburn University Women’s Soccer Team during her term at Auburn.  She coaches youth soccer with the Auburn Thunder Soccer Association with her husband Bill.  Mrs. Ferguson and Bill live in Opelika with their two weimariners, Radly and Kramer.

Mrs. Shealy McKinnon~  This will be Mrs. McKinnon's second year at Drake. She taught science and language arts last year on the Cosmic Cats. Mrs. McKinnon graduated from Auburn University in 2005 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She just finished her Master's degree in Administration this summer. Mrs. McKinnon lives in Auburn with her husband, Clayton and their black labs, Daisy and Millie.

Mrs. Brooke Vakakes ~ This will be Mrs. Vakakes' third year teaching at Drake. She was a Leopard her first year and a Lion teacher last year. She is so excited to remain a Lion and have the opportunity to teach kids from all 4 teams! Mrs. Vakakes graduated from The University of Alabama in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She just finished her Master's degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Vakakes lives here in Auburn with her husband, John and their dog, Bentley.
