Arrange Your

Work Area

Before you begin to keyboard, you should arrange your workstation in a manner that allows for efficient skill building.  Having your workstation properly arranged enables you to key copy accurately and quickly.  Therefore, at the beginning of each lesson, you should arrange your working area as follows:

 

·     Pull the keyboard to the end of your desk and center it so that the J key is in the center of your body.

·     Place your book or written material at the side of your computer, so it can be clearly seen and read.

·     Adjust seat and monitor, if necessary.

·     Apply Keyboarding Techniques.

 

You are now ready to type!!!


· Keyboarding Techniques

 

1.  Sit up straight.

 

2.  Keep feet at the same level.

 

3.  Sit the correct distance from the keyboard (about one hand span).

 

4.  Place fingers on the home keys (a,s,d,f,j,k,l,;) in curved position

 

5.  Keep wrists low but not resting on the keyboard or desk.

 

6.  Keep eyes on the copy.
