Study Guide

NOTE: You will need to bring a Number 2 pencil with you to class! We will be using Scan-Trons.

You will need to be able to do the following things:

• Locate and label the seven geographical areas where French is spoken.
• Name three French-speaking countries.

• Recognize and understand the French questions, Qui es tu?, Comment t’appelles-tu?, Comment ça va?, Quel jour est-ce?,  and Quelle est la date aujourd’hui?,  and write appropriate responses.
• Recognize, understand, and tell the difference between the following French greetings and farewells: Bonjour, Bonsoir,  Salut, Au revoir, À bientôt, À demain, Bonne nuit.
• Recognize and understand the days of the week and months of the year in French.
• Recognize and understand the numbers 0-10 in French.
• Recognize and understand the following colors in French: bleu, blanc, rouge, jaune, gris, noir, vert, orange, brun, rose, violet.
• Answer true/false or multiple choice questions based on the cultural readings about France.

The test will include the following sections with the possible types of activities:

Listening:          1.  Listen to statements and determine whether you hear a greeting, a goodbye, a

 day or a month.

2.      Understand responses to the question Comment ça va?.

3.      Answer True/False statements about colors and numbers.

Vocabulary:      1.   Choose the word in a row that does not fit.

2.      Match colors with descriptions of items that are that color. (Tip: cultural readings)

3.      Match appropriate responses to greetings, goodbyes, and questions.

4.      Match numerals with the words for the numbers 0-10.

5.      Put the days of the week and months in order in French.

Culture:            1.  Match the geographical areas where French is spoken with locations on a

     map.

2.      Write the names of three French-speaking countries.

3.      Answer True/False questions about the cultural readings, e.g., the French flag, Tour de France, Le Mans, Notre Dame, Gothic architecture,  Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe
