EXFL 7/ German Test 1 Study Guide

This test will cover Chapters 1, 2, and 10 from the section “Welcome to German” beginning on pg.230 in your textbook as well as the notes handed out in class.

You will need to know the following things:

·         Locate German-speaking countries on a map in German.

·         Know which countries speak German and the name of the countries in German.

·         Recognize the difference between formal and informal questions, and know when to use each.

·         Understand and write greetings, farewells, introductions, and courtesies. (Study your greetings vocabulary handouts! All of the words will come from there.)

·         Recognize and understand the numbers 0-1,000 in German

·         Understand the following words in German: der/ein Rucksack, Bleistift, Kuli/Kugelschreiber, Radiergummi, Heft, Buch, (Taschen)Rechner, Bitte, Bitte sehr/schön, Danke (schön),

·         Ask how someone is doing and respond.

·         Ask for and give your name in German.

·         Understand classroom commands and expressions. (Study Classroom Expressions Notes)

·         Understand the custom of hand-shaking in the German-speaking countries.

 

The test will include the following sections with the possible types of activities:

 

Listening:          1. Understand commands and match a picture with the correct action.

                        2. Recognize if statements are formal or informal.

                        3. Circle responses to the question Wie geht’s?

4. Write the correct telephone number after it is read aloud.

 

 

Vocabulary:      1. Write the appropriate greetings, farewells, introductions, and courtesies after

                        given situations like on the role plays we did in class. 

                        2. Be able to understand and write the following words in German: yes, no, pleased

                            to meet you, good luck, please, thank you, you’re welcome, excuse me, and

                        I’m sorry.

3.      Write the numbers you read.

4.      Match opposites of words.

5.      Match questions with appropriate responses.

6.   Write the vocabulary words in German after shown a picture.

 

Writing:            1. Answer questions about yourself with complete sentences in German.

2. Write a dialog in a store or restaurant asking how much items cost.

 

 

Culture:            1. Match the names of the German-speaking countries in German with their

 location on a map.

2. Answer True/False questions about handshaking, the German-speaking

   countries, and their capitals. (Review your video notes.)

3. Name the capitals of the German-speaking countries.
