  • Bring a positive attitude to class each day.

  • Treat students with care and respect.

  • Develop lessons that are not only educational but also fun.

  • Follow school polices and procedures.

 Students will…

  • Come to class with an open mind and positive attitude.

  • Treat fellow students and the teacher with respect.

  • Be on time and prepared.

  • Follow school rules.

Failure to meet these expectations will have the following consequences:

    1. Verbal Warning

    2. Student/Teacher Conference

    3. Parent/Team Contact

    4. Administrator Conference

    5. Office Referral

Grading Policy

Student grades will be figured according to the following percentages:

Tests/Projects                 50%

Classwork/Quizzes          40%

Homework                      10%

Tests

Sixth Grade students will have a test approximately every seven class days, i.e., one test for each language. Tests will include listening and vocabulary activities as well as questions about culture and geography.

Seventh Grade students will have approximately two tests for each language. Tests will include listening and vocabulary activities as well as questions about culture and geography. Test dates will be posted on this site in advance.

Students scoring below an 80% on any test may come by appointment before or after school to make corrections to their test.  Students will correct ALL missed questions, and will earn half the points back that they missed not to exceed an 80%. Test corrections or arrangements MUST be made within one calendar week from the return of the tests.

**All tests will remain on file in the classroom.**

Projects-Sixth Grade

At the end of each language, students will turn in a book representative of what they have learned about each language including a reflection.  All requirements and a rubric will be given to students at the beginning of the language and made available on my website.

Projects-Seventh Grade

Students will complete a small project for each language (no greater than 50 pts) throughout the semester as well as one larger project (approx. 200 pts.) towards the end of the semester. All requirements, deadlines, and rubrics will be given to students and made available on my website.

Homework

Sixth Grade students may have assigned homework once a week in this course.  Seventh Grade students should expect homework twice a week. Homework assignments will be posted in the classroom as well as on my website.

All homework is expected to be completed before the student comes to class and will be turned in at the beginning of class. I will accept homework one day late, but students will be assigned to the Last Chance Café to complete the assignment, and the highest grade possible on the assignment will be half credit.

If there is no assigned homework, I expect students to be practicing what was learned in class that day. There may be some announced pop quizzes.

Grading Scale

Policies and Procedures

Make up work

Students have five school days to turn in work or tests missed due to an excused absence.   If the absence is unexcused, zeros will be given for missed work.    Students are responsible for picking up make up work and scheduling a time to make up any missed tests upon their return to school. Graded assignments will be posted in my room. Assignments can also be found on this website.

Progress Reports

Students will receive a progress report each Thursday in their folder from their team with an updated grade for this class.  I will distribute detailed progress reports every 4-5 weeks.  The detailed progress reports will need to be signed by a parent or guardian and returned by the next class day.

Leaving the classroom

Because of our limited instructional time, students will be allowed to leave the classroom for emergencies only.  Students should use the restroom during their passing time.  If a student does need to leave the room, he/she should ask permission, bring me his/her planner to sign, and sign-out before he/she leaves.

End of the Course Celebration

Towards the end of the course, you will be receiving an invitation to visit our classes and see what your students have learned.  Student work will be on display as well as your student’s talents in foreign language.
