The Life History of
Gilmer
Dairy Farm #211 – Missy Moo
GDF
#211, also known as “Missy Moo”, was born on July 12, 2002.
She drank milk everyday until she was six weeks old, at which time she
began eating dry feed and drinking water. She
spent every day in the green pastures with other calves her age.
As
the months went by, Missy Moo grew strong and healthy.
September 30, 2004, was a very special day for her, as she gave birth to
her first calf. She was only two
years old when she had her calf, but was now a grown-up cow.
Missy
Moo then began spending her days with the other grown-up milking cows.
She gave milk twice a day…once early in the morning and once in the
afternoon. Almost one year after
having her first calf, she gave birth again on September 24, 2005.
Missy
Moo has made as much as 82 pounds of milk in one day…that’s over nine and a
half gallons! Since she gave birth
to her first calf in 2004, she has made over 33,700 pounds of milk.
To drink that much milk, you would have to drink three cups each day for
57 years!
On
August 27th, after spending two months resting with the dry cows,
Missy Moo gave birth to her third calf, a healthy baby heifer.
Missy Moo is now with the other milking cows and is quite happy.
She comes in the milking barn twice a day and spends the rest of her time
eating, chewing her cud, and relaxing under shade trees.
