Peer Mentoring Program
Your Serve

YOUR
SERVE is a service- learning project that allows fifth graders to “give back
to” or “serve” the elementary school that they are about to leave.
Twelve to fifteen fifth graders are selected each year to participate in
the project. The
participants include students who need additional enrichment activities and
students who need additional responsibilities at school in order to feel
successful. These
fifth grade participants provide services throughout the year that can
potentially touch each student and teacher at our school.
The
primary focus of the YOUR SERVE group is to mentor younger boys and girls.
Each group member gives a recess each week to spend time with a first or
second grade “buddy.” During
this time, the older and younger student may read together, study spelling
words, write a story, use flash cards or play a learning game. In addition, YOUR SERVE members assist in school-wide
projects like helping Coach York with Field Day, maintaining several flowerbeds,
and working with Mrs. Hames on decorating projects.
