Choir Information:  2008-2009

Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome to a new year at Cary Woods!  Each year, Cary Woods Chorus is open to all 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grade students who have permission to participate and who are willing to work hard and make a commitment to the group.  The following several pages contain information regarding our choir program.  Please read through this information and return the enclosed forms if you are interested in being a part of our choir.  All forms are due no later than Friday, August 29th.

This year, our choir will participate in several programs, including a winter program and a spring musical play.  Cary Woods Chorus performs a variety of choral and vocal music representative of various cultures, genres, and periods of history.  We also have a lot of fun!  Chorus meets each Wednesday after school from 2:30 until 3:15.  All Chorus members are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances.  Please be sure to be prompt in picking up your child at 3:15.

In addition, we ask that every chorus member purchase a 2008-2009 Cary Woods t-shirt.  This shirt will be our “uniform” for every performance.  Although the PTA took orders during the summer, another t-shirt order will be going out very soon.  If you plan to be a part of our chorus, you must order a Cary Woods t-shirt.  Be looking for the information from the PTA regarding shirts.  PTA will be handling all shirt orders and payment for shirts. This may be worn with neat-looking jeans or a knee length denim skirt.

The rules and procedures for CWES Chorus and the permission forms are found on the next several pages.  We will begin rehearsals on Wednesday, September 3rd.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have, and I look forward to great things this year.

RULES AND PROCEDURES

Attendance and Pick-up:

• All students are expected to attend all choir rehearsals and performances.  Please do not schedule regular appointments or lessons during choir time.  Excused absences include sickness, family emergency, or out-of town travel.
• Students will sign-in at each rehearsal.  Attendance is essential.  Any student with three unexcused absences from chorus will be dismissed from chorus.
• Chorus ends promptly at 3:15.  All students are expected to make prior arrangements for prompt pickup from chorus.  Students will not be permitted to call home on the day of chorus to make transportation arrangements.
• Any student not picked up by 3:30 will be sent to after-school and will be expected to pay the after-school drop in fee of 15.00.  Any student picked up after 3:30 three times will be dismissed from chorus.

Conduct and Participation:

• All chorus members are expected to participate in singing and rehearsal activities.
• School rules apply during all chorus rehearsals, as do the school discipline policies.  Any student repeatedly breaking these rules may be dismissed from chorus.
• A positive attitude is a must in chorus.  True musicians learn to appreciate a variety of styles and genres, and all students are expected to put forth their best efforts with positive attitudes at all times.
• Students who are disruptive will receive:

1.       warning

2.       time-out

3.       call home for early pick-up

Dress:

• All choir members should order a Cary Woods 2008 2009 t-shirt.  T-shirts can be ordered by contacting the Cary Woods PTA.
• T-shirts should be worn with neat-looking jeans or a knee-length demin shirt.

Performances:

• All students should arrive at the performance site 15 minutes prior to a performance.
• Students are never to be dropped off unattended during a performance.  Students are under the supervision of parents or guardians before and after a performance, and parents and guardians should not leave the site during the performance.
