The Jamestown Experience

Students are traveling in crews (partners) around the classroom to learn about the First English Settlement, Jamestown. They are learning many ideas about Jamestown such as how it came about, the colonies hardships, trade, Powhatans Indians, the truth about Pocahontas, and many more interesting facts about Jamestown. Students have eight centers to complete that involve many skills such as technology, sequencing, researching, reading, and poetry.

During this center, students play a game called "Made For Trade" in which they learn how the colonists traded during colonial times. During these two centers, students experience first hand on the computer what settlers went through during the first settlement as they decide their outcome and  they research during the other center on the computer about trades they picked in class.  During this center, students play a memory game in which they have to match Jamestown vocabulary words with their definitions.  During this center, students read on the bench about different cultures, from past to present, and write about the alike and differences they all have.
