Opening Ceremonies!
September 14th
What an exciting day!! We began by parading our countries flags out to the Olympic Fanfare. Once seated, we watched as first the Olympic flag made its way in and then the final runner of the torch made his way into the area and lit our wonderful flame! Upon the lighting, we were awed by the sight of our pigeons being released and circling over us twice before flying off for home. After this, our host athlete and official read their respective Olympic Oaths while holding a corner of the Olympic flag. After Mrs. LaMar declared "Let the games begin" the RAIN started!! It didn't matter to us, though! A few rain drops could not damper our Olympic spirit!

Olympic Closing!!
A shorter and more solemn ceremony officially closed our Olympic unit. Children had been participating in a Readathalon. Each grade level had a variety of books and reading activities that they had to have signed by parents and teachers. Many of our children won bronze, silver, and gold medals. It was an exciting day that finished up with all of our winners stopping by the media center for a piece of Olympic CAKE!!
