Healthy Hearts

Equipment:   -  Hula hoops, bean bags, and tape lines.

]

Protocols:            -Line up time is quite time.

                        -When the teacher talks the students listen.

                        -When you hear the whistle you are to freeze.

                        -Stay in your own personal space.

                        -AEEC clap/chant and then silence.

 

Teacher Objectives:    -  To educate the students on activities that help

strengthen out body and hearts.  To remind them that we need to exercise to stay healthy and strong.  To encourage that the students partake in activities outside of P.E. To review body parts.

 

Student Objectives:    -   To work hard for the teacher.  To listen and follow

directions.  To enjoy the class and to take knowledge about healthy habits.  To recall stored info of body parts.

 

Instant Activity:   -      Direction routine (Crazy 8’s)   

5-7 min.                     A. Demonstrate and explain the routine. 

1.      Walk- backwards

2.      Skip- Forwards

3.      Slide- to the right

4.      Gallop- to the left

a.      Always end up on the starting point.

b.      Start slow.

c.      Repeat 3 more times getting faster each time.

d.      You may add arm motion if you like.

 

Lesson Focus:  -             Healthy hearts

                        Learn a “Health Fact” and put into practice.  Talking to the students, “You need to work hard enough to get your heart beating faster and keep it beating fast for several minutes to help your heart muscles get stronger.

 

A.     Talk about the fact  and give some examples…

a.      Jump rope- for 5 - 10 minutes.

b.      Playing chase for 5 - 10 minutes.

c.      Playing soccer for 5 - 10 minutes.

 

B.     Play Bean Bag Bank-

a.      Teacher explains and demonstrates the game.

                                                    i.      Each child gets 1 hoop and 1 beanbag.

                                                                     ii.      Set hoops scattered around the room w/ 1 child and 1 beanbag per.

                                                                    iii.      On the “go” signal, children run and get 1 beanbag from another hoop and put it in their hoop.  Keep running out and getting others bags, but only 1 at a time. 

                                                                    iv.      As soon as you get 3 bags, yell “stop!”  and raise your hand.

                                                                     v.      Everyone will freeze and teacher will check to see.

                                                    vi.      Sit and rest a minute, give back beanbags, and get ready to play again.

                                                 vii.      Remind :  -They cannot pick up more than 1

                            at a time.

          -They must leave their beanbag in their

                            hoop.

                                                                        -They need to be quick.

 

C.    Body Part Cool Down-

a.      Teacher will call out a body part and students will put only that body part in their hoop.

                                                                                        i.      Wrist

                                                                 ii.      Ankle

                                                                                       iii.      Elbow

                                                                  iv.      Knee

                                                                                        v.      Hip

                                                                  vi.      Shin

                                                                                       vii.      Thigh

 

Conclusion:     Q & A

            -Put equipment away and listen to the teacher.

            -Review left and right.

            -Review “Fitness Fact.”

            -Line up and dismiss.
