Introducing
skipping
(5-7 min.)
Pretend that we are giants, coach is a grown up giant
and the students are the children giants. We are sleeping giants.
When we wake up we stretch and yawn.
Stretch up high, stretch out in front of you.
Now let's go down to the village and scare some little people.
We are walking to the village taking giant steps.
Wait, we got the hiccups. So
every giant step we take we hiccup. Ask
the children how hiccups make us move? They
make us hop or jump up. So as we
walk to the village, we hiccup each step. Looks
like a step-hop, step-hop, and step-hop.
Us giants look kind of funny with the hiccups. Watch
coach. What does it look like I am
doing? Skipping! If you can skip
show coach. If you need to practice
think of our giant step hopping and try to step hop, step hiccup.
Lesson
Focus:
Catching
Remind children of the rules with the softie balls.
No sitting on them, no stepping on them, no kicking, and no picking at
the white button (air valve.)
When I ask, please go get a ball and sit in own personal space.
We are going to practice throwing the ball up and catching it. When we had the yarn balls, we practiced throwing. What were
we suppose to remember about throwing? Point
and throw.
This time we are focusing on catching. Watch coach. As
I throw the ball up and catch it, where are my eyes?
That is right, on the ball. Everyone
say watch the ball.
Remember that.
How about my hands, what are they doing?
That is right they are ready to catch the ball.
So everyone say ready hands. Everybody so me ready hands.
You have to watch the ball and have ready hands to catch the
ball.Remember that too!
Now practice throwing the ball up and catching it.
Use ready hands and watch the ball.
(All while sitting.)
Try standing up and catching in your own space. Remember to use ready
hands and watch the ball.
Try throwing the ball up and clapping and then catching the ball.
Like this.
Try clapping twice.
Now everyone hold their ball and line up with your backs on the wall.
Hold your ball! Every other
person go put your ball in the hula hoop and come back to the spot you were in.
Now we are going to throw and catch with a partner, like this.
Demonstrate with a pair of students.
Put your balls back in the hula hoop and sit in the middle.
