Our Mission in Physical Education is to introduce the skills necessary for making quality movers for life. Physical Education is designed to enrich our students with knowledge and skills for maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. The Auburn Early Education Center Physical Education Department is the starting point, for the youth of Auburn to gain the love and understanding of the importance of being physically active for life. In corporation with the other P.E. programs in our system, we work to improve the overall quality of physical education for our students. We understand the importance of a positive learning environment, and focus on student acquisition of skill knowledge, fitness, social interaction, and personal growth. We deliver the knowledge through daily lessons, cues (key words describing material), practice/repetition, constant feedback, and assessments. We simplify skills into cues (simplified steps for performing a skill). Our cues help students remember the technique to various motor skills. Practice is the only way to improve and feedback is the tool we use to find the problem and correct mistakes. Assessment shows both our areas of weakness but our areas of strength and improvement. By providing ample opportunity to practice and improve through problem solving and positive feedback, we work toward attaining our goals. We encourage and instill an understanding that taking care of our body, eating healthy, exercising, partaking in sports, and working with others, will prevent future health risks such as heart disease and obesity. We are continuously working at improving and perfecting our curriculum and personal goals. We are beginning to introduce more formal assessments. We are taking measures to develop our teaching techniques professionally. We are advocating our work and efforts more than ever and trying to set a positive example for other programs. We have goals and are striving to accomplish them. It may take time, but “all good things come in time.” |
