Volunteer
Guidelines
It is a pleasure to welcome you as a volunteer at Auburn
Early Education Center. Our staff values your contribution to the rich
educational program that we offer for our students. Your presence and energy
are appreciated and needed to provide our students with varied, engaging
learning opportunities.
Following are a few basic guidelines that will enable you
to better serve our students and teachers. We look forward to working with you
this year as we strive to meet the needs of our students.
- Volunteers will be assigned to classes according to a
schedule that is based on the needs of the teacher and the availability of
the volunteer. If you are scheduled to volunteer but find that you will be
unable to meet your volunteer commitment, please make every effort to alert
the teacher by calling the school office (887-4950).
- When you arrive at the school to volunteer, please
sign in at the office. Volunteer badges will be available. You will need
to wear this badge during your time at the school to identify yourself as a
volunteer. Please return the badge to the office before you leave the
school.
Becoming a member of our professional team
- As a volunteer, you are a part of our professional
team as we work together to educate our students. We must use a
professional level of discretion that prohibits discussion of students,
teachers, or other confidential information outside the classroom. We all
must respect the need for confidentiality of information regarding staff,
students, and families.
- If you are volunteering in your child’s classroom,
please prepare your child for the time you will spend in the classroom.
Volunteer time will involve all students. It will be helpful if your child
understands that you are in the classroom to work and to assist teachers and
students.
- As a volunteer, teachers and staff will depend on you
to supervise small groups or individual students as you play games, read,
work on projects, or assist with other activities. These responsibilities
will require your undivided attention. For this reason we ask that you not
bring siblings or other children with you to the classroom.
Supervising children/Working in the classroom
- Teachers of young children work diligently to
establish classroom routines and to structure the classroom environment so
that optimal learning will occur. Please be respectful of the classroom
structure and rules during your volunteer time.
- When you are supervising children during group or
individual activities, use positive language and convey your expectations
clearly.
- We want our students to learn acceptable ways to
interact in social situations with adults and others. Encourage the
children to follow school and classroom rules during your volunteer time,
both inside and outside the classroom.
- Praise and encourage students for efforts and
acknowledge their successes.
We appreciate your willingness to serve as a volunteer at
Auburn Early Education Center. Your time, effort, and dedication will be
invaluable in enriching the educational experience for all of our students.
