Dear Parents, Parent Conference Week is scheduled for October 10th- 14th. I will send home a note with times for the whole week of Oct. 10th -14th that I will be available for a conference. This year, we are not having a day set aside for conferences. So, I will have to do them at my break or after school. Please mark a first or second choice time that is convenient for you. I will try to honor the time. Please look for the letter early next week. Shared
Journal~
JOURNALS: I am so pleased with the progress of the children’s journals. I have some students writing one sentence everyday. Everyone one is keeping his or her journal calendar up to date. They are illustrating the story that was shared. Encourage your child when they are drawing a picture to use more than one crayon and to take smaller strokes with their crayons. We are using the 5 W’s (who, what, when, where and why) to ask questions about the daily share story. Dates

Theme
Development~
This week, we have started our zoo theme.
We have read several zoo books that are giving us wonderful
background information. We are in the process of making a class map of a
zoo, which should take us several days to finish.
Shared
Reading~
Last
week, we finished our Mr. Number Man poem booklet.
I hope your child read the poems that were in their booklet.
This is a good way for your child to remember how to write and
recognize their numbers. For shared reading, we have read books with
either a number or a number word in the title; Five Chinese Brothers,
Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, One Hungry
Monster, Six Little Ducks, and Seven Chinese Brothers.
We spent several days reading books about shapes. We went on a shape walk
around AEEC to spot as many shapes as we could.
If you are driving around town please ask your child to identify
shapes that they might see. The
next several weeks, we will be focusing on our alphabet by reading books
with an A through Z in the title. We
are working on letter recognition, sounds, and writing the letters. Needs ~Each child will need an empty animal cracker box for our zoo theme. We are going to use the box to make a camera. *Celebration~Next Friday will be our first
Celebration. Please listen
carefully to Dr. Land instructions for dismissal.
I will need to bring the children back to the room right after we
are finished. Please do not
follow us back to the room until Dr. Land dismisses you.
I will check out the children to you from our room.
Please be patient. |
