Sanders’
Scribbles

I am so proud of our
class. All of the
children worked very hard this week.
Our observation on Thursday went fabulous.
Everyone did a great job and our visitor was very
impressed with everything they saw!
I have begun
updating our classroom web page.
Please check it often to see what we are doing in our
classroom.

SHARED
JOURNAL
This week, we began having
2 children sign up to share.
The children are really doing a great job listening to
the stories and asking good, thoughtful questions.
We have also begun talking about the qualities of these
stories. This
negotiation process helps the children determine which story
they will vote on.
I will be sending
September journals home next week.
Please don’t forget to send them back the next day.
I will be saving them for you in your child’s binder.
THEME
We finished our study on houses this week by graphing
the type of home we live in. We also voted on a title for our 3rd
class book, which is about different things that can be houses.
We got the idea for this book from A House is a House for Me
by Mary Ann Hoberman. The children named our book Our House
Book. We
finished the week off by making our 4th class book.
The children modeled it from the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear,
What do you see? They made collage houses out of
construction paper and then wrote their addresses at the bottom
to make their book called Children, Children, Where do you
live? Next week we will begin reading and learning about
families. Towards the middle of the week we will begin to read
about the circus to move into the pod theme. Be sure to ask you
children to tell you about our new class books, we had a lot of
fun making them.
SHARED READING
We read books about bedtime and going to bed. With these books, we focused on initial sounds and letter
identification. The
books Good Night Moon and Time for Bed also had
rhyming words in them. So,
we got a good review on rhyming words as well.
CENTER TIME
In addition to our regular centers, the children made
play dough for our Play Dough Center.
The children loved making the dough and did a great job.
This activity was especially important because it gave me
many opportunities to question and talk with the children so
that they could begin to understand the chemistry behind all of
the mixing and heating we did.
IMPORTANT DATES AND NOTES
Please don’t forget to send in a coloring book if
you have not already done so.
This is so helpful during journal time.
Don’t forget to send in items for our class basket. Our
basket’s theme is “Out in the Garden”.
I know that we will have a great basket for the silent
auction.
When your child is out, please remember to send in an
excuse.
