Sanders’
Scribbles

With this week’s
newsletter, I am also sending home your child’s DIBELS scores.
Please remember that this assessment is only a snapshot
of your child’s pre reading skills at this time.
As with any standardized assessment, it does not
exclusively show what a child knows and is capable of learning.
Please read the letter attached to your child’s scores
and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
SHARED
JOURNAL
This week, the children
continued to share stories.
We really concentrated on retelling the stories through
the details in our pictures and with our words.
I have already seen growth in some of the children that I
have been working with. Details are beginning to appear in their pictures and some
students are even writing several details to go along with their
pictures. I can’t
wait to share their journals with you in a few weeks.
THEME
We began talking about homes this week. We read several books and began discussing why homes are
important. We also
analyzed the types of homes in each book and discussed if it
would be a good home for us.
Next week, we will be looking at the types of homes we
might find in Auburn.
SHARED READING
Our shared reading books this week focused on the
days of the week. In
addition to reading these books, we continued to play I Spy and
work with initial sounds. We
even used a Venn Diagram to compare the book Today is Monday,
by Eric Carle with the song, “Today is Sunday”, by Dr. Jean.
I also noticed that several children went to the Big Book
center at center time and played school.
As I watched them, I saw them rereading these books,
working with our chants and using our props to sing the songs
that we have been doing with this week’s books!
Center
Time
This week, we opened Writing Center.
We read some books and talked about what things you could
do at this center. The
children jumped right in. So
far, 2 books have been written.
I am scanning these and will be adding them to our class
web page soon!
IMPORTANT DATES AND NOTES
Please don’t forget to send in a coloring book if
you have not already done so.
This will be so helpful during journal time when the
children finish their journals and must wait until I can meet
with them.
Don’t forget to send in items for our class basket.
Our basket’s theme is Out in the Garden.
I know that we will have a great basket for the silent
auction.
When your child is out, please remember to send in an
excuse. Wear your
school t-shirts to the Fall Festival next week!
I am sending new book orders home today. If you are interested in ordering from them, please get them
back to me by next Friday.
