Sanders’
Scribbles

This is a quick reminder that we will be on the
risers for the PTA meeting Monday night!
We are asking that the children be in the Blue Pod by
5:45.
We also celebrated Read Across America Day. We had a guest reader this morning, read lots of Dr. Suess
books and explored the properties of Oobleck!
I will have pictures on the web page as soon as possible.
Morning Meeting
These are the Daily Data questions that we answered
this week.
*What kind of pet do you have?
*Do you take a bath in the morning or at night?
*What do you sleep with at night?
*Do you like to take a bath or shower?
Shared
Journal
Miss Smith started leading the negotiations for
Shared Journals this week.
This gave me an opportunity to sit back, listen and
observe. I can’t
tell you how impressed I am at the thoughts of the children.
February journals will be coming home in the next few
days! I know that
you will enjoy reading them!!!
Theme
We
are finishing up our research on elephants.
The children are becoming elephant experts! They know all
about life in an elephant herd.
Do you know how elephants keep cool?
Ask your child. I
bet they can tell you. This week also, we wrote our construction
plan and began building our Asian elephant.
Next week, we will add our elephant facts to our circus
books!
Shared
Reading
This
week, we worked on comprehension strategies as we read our books
for Shared Reading. We
discussed the titles and what clues can be gathered from the
titles and the pictures. We
talked about the strategies that good readers use when reading
and the questions that they ask themselves.
We will continue to work on comprehension strategies and
vocabulary in upcoming weeks.
We
read the following books this week:
The
Playground in the Yard:
As we read this book, we reasoned and predicted where a
family might locate a new swing set and jungle gym that they had
bought.
My
Very Own Letter: We made a web of all the
things that we could do at writing center.
Some of the ideas were write songs, letters, e-mails,
make daily data questions, webs and books.
The
Napping House: We did a vocabulary
lesson on the word dozing.
The children used context clues to discover the meaning
of the word dozing. We
added this word to our classroom dictionary.
