It has been another short but full week in our classroom.  In addition to all of the things that usually take place, we also had students going to the book fair, family lunch and whole group guidance with Mrs. Daniel.

Morning Meeting

Shared Journal

The children are really doing a great job as they share the details of their stories.  I am very proud of their hard work!

Theme

This week, our lab student, Miss Syphers, began a mini-theme study of monkeys with the children.  In addition, we began talking about the different people acts.    We read many books and made a list of the acts.  After a good discussion, the children decided to learn about

Shared Reading

We read several books and worked on many comprehension strategies.  Here are some of the books that we read: 

10 Little Monkeys

5 Little Monkeys-With these 2 books, we used a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast these books.

Caps for Sale – We worked on sequence of events by acting out this story.

Curious George goes to the Museum – We talked about the central problem in this story and how it was solved.

Centers

We have almost completed the construction of our elephant!  On Tuesday, Miss Smith and I hoisted her body up secured it to the lets.  This was not easy as our elephant is about 8 feet tall and Miss Smith and I are only 5.  With the head being attached today, I think our elephant will be completed next week!!!  We also worked hard on our fact books, math journals and other center activities!
