Sanders’
Scribbles

We have had a pretty full
week. We had Halloween rotations on Tuesday. The children
visited the classrooms in Orange Pod and did a different
activity with each teacher. We had shared reading in our room
and they also did song and dance, Bingo, Pumpkin Bread tasting,
and made pumpkin wreaths.
We will be having more
visitors come to our class next week during Shared Journal.
Please help to remind your child that we want to do our
best when visitors are in our classroom.
Also, we have had some very exciting news
here at AEEC. The George Lucas Education Foundation is going to
be visiting to film the school! There is a detailed letter in
your Friday folder along with a release form for filming. Please
be sure to fill these out and return them on Monday.
SHARED
JOURNAL
We are continuing share
our stories and negotiate with our friends each day. The
children are really doing a great job as they try to convince
their friends to vote for the story they want to win. During
negotiations, we discuss things about the stories such as the
topic, how well the person sharing presented their story, how
many times that person had been written about, and
whether they told us a lot of good details.
When we are writing in our
journals, the children are learning how to listen for the
different sounds in the words and are really doing a great job!
Please continue to encourage your child to write at home and to
share their stories with you.
Please remember to send
the October journals back!
THEME
We took a short break from the circus to enjoy some
fun Halloween/ fall books. We read a lot of books with different
costumes in them and made a web of what we might want to dress
up as for Halloween. On Wednesday, we returned to studying the
circus by beginning to look at different types of
transportation. We have read several books on transportation and
are talking about what might be the best way for our circus to
travel. We also learned that the circus is not always traveling.
We found out that in the winter, at their Winter
Headquarters to practice their acts.
SHARED READING
We read more cute Halloween stories and carved our
own pumpkin. The children voted that we should carve a scary
face in it. (Miss Lewis carved the pumpkin while the children
watched.) On Wednesday, we began a book/author study of Joy
Cowley’s Wishy-Washy books. We are working on segmenting words
into syllables and sounds, and looking at the letters that make
up that word. We are also learning to recognize some sight words
such as and, the, is, in, and it.
Center Time
We have been working a several projects during
centers this week. The children have been making their fact book
covers, and working on a new activity for their math journals.
Also, our Advance Department has updated our class web page to
show what they did to prepare for our Circus.
