Sanders’ Scribbles

We had a great time at Tailgate Day! Thank you very much to all the parents who helped us out by bringing things in or staying with us.

SHARED JOURNAL

We are continuing to share two stories a day and then briefly negotiating on which story we would like to write about. The children are doing a great job with negotiations and are remembering the different things we talk about such as the topic, how well the person sharing presented their story, how many times that person had been written about, whether they told us a lot of good details, and whether we learned anything new from their story.

When we are writing in our journals, the children are learning how to listen for the different sounds in the words and are really doing a great job! Please continue to encourage your child to write at home and to share their stories with you.

I will continue to be sending home the October journals throughout the next week.

THEME

The children voted that our circus should travel by train since that is how most of the really big circuses travel now. So this week we have been reading lots of books about trains and learning all about the different parts. Our class is going to be building the engine for our train and so we have been focusing on learning how the diesel engine works. The children have signed up to build different parts such as the whistles and headlights, the wheels, the control stand, and the outside. We will begin building on Monday, as well as continuing to research the different parts of the engine. J

SHARED READING

We have been reading books about Auburn in preparation for Tailgate Day. We read about Aubie, different places around Auburn University, and about Tiger, the eagle. We also made a web of things that we know about Tailgating, which the children knew a lot. Some of the things mentioned were that you sit under a tent, you grill food, you see R.V.s and campers, and you wear your team colors. Next week we will read some books on Thanksgiving to get ready for the holiday.

 Center Time

We have still been working on fact book covers. Most of the children have finished their covers and some are working on the pages.  We are also doing our train research during centers. The children have signed up to research a part that they are interested in (not necessarily the part they are building) and are learning everything about that part so they can present it to the class.

IMPORTANT DATES AND NOTES

Also, please talk to your children about the importance of fire, tornado, and other safety drills and how we need to be serious and listen when we have them. Thank you!
