Sanders’
Scribbles

We had a great
time at Family Fun Night. According
to our class chart, 10 of our friends were there!
I have added the pictures that I have to our class web
page. If you have other pictures from Family Fun Night, please
e-mail them to me so that I can add to our web page!
SHARED
JOURNAL
We continued to
work on sharing our stories and telling our details.
Miss Lewis and I are modeling and helping the students
with their questioning skills.
They are learning how to ask meaningful questions that
will add to the details of the stories.
The children are doing a great job and are already
amazing us with the things they think to ask.
Please don’t
forget to send your child’s September journal back to school
so that I can put it in their binder!
THEME
This
week we focused on Families during theme time.
We began by reading Kids in Pioneer Times and
discussing the differences in how families lived in the past and
the present. From there we began to talk about why our families
are important to us. The children listed many great reasons.
Some reasons were: they
buy us food; they love us, and many more.
We also talked about how our families make us feel and
who makes up a family. The book You See A Circus, I See… was great for
helping us explore this topic.
SHARED READING
This
week we have be doing an author study on Kevin Henkes. We have
been reading his mouse books and talking about how he is the
author and the illustrator. We also learned that his first book
was published when he was only 19 and that he lives in New York
now. We did many activities to go along with his books such as
tasting vinegar (from Owen) and cheese balls (from Lilly’s
Purple Plastic Purse), sorting things that we would need to
take on a sleepover and things that we would want to take (from A
Weekend with Wendell), and graphing how many siblings we
have (from Julius, The Baby of the World). Next week we
finish reading more Kevin Henkes books!
CENTER TIME
We are working on turning our Home Living
Center into a Post Office.
We have been busy reading books about Post Offices,
making a web of things you would see in a Post Office and making
a list of things we need for our Post Office.
In addition to doing this, we also went
to the Science Lab for the 1st time.
The children had a great time exploring the light tables,
beans, sand and water tables, the gears, Lego’s and blocks!
We will go to the Science Lab every 2 weeks!
