Sanders’ Scribbles

We have had a great week.   I really enjoyed talking with each of you during our conferences.  If you missed your conference or forgot to schedule one, please call or e-mail me so we can meet!!!

SHARED JOURNAL

We are continuing to share our stories and tell our details. The children are doing a great job with asking meaningful questions for the stories such as what color things were, and asking their friends to describe something. We have learned that to describe something means to tell what it looked like, smelled like, or sounded like depending on the object being referred to. The children are also really coming along with using their words to tell about the story and listening for the sounds they hear in the words.

 THEME

We are still in the beginning stages of our Circus theme. We have started really thinking about what we need to do to prepare to have a circus. We have focused on the Advance Department of the circus which makes all of the arrangements like getting permission to have the circus, and deciding where and when it will be. We composed a class letter to Dr. Land asking her permission to have our circus at AEEC in the Orange Pod. Next week we will begin looking at advertising and start our Circus Fact Books.

 SHARED READING

This week, we are still reading about the zoo. We have learned about the different animals we might see there and the different jobs at the zoo, by reading Zoo by Gail Gibbons  .  Some of the jobs we learned about were zoo keeper, vet, food and souvenir vendors, and a night guard. We read Color Zoo by Louis Ehlert and made shape/color animals for our Math Journals.

 Center Time

Our Post Office is off and running.  Thanks so much for all of the supplies.

We have also finished our hamster research.  Next week, we will be turning our research into a Power Point presentation so we can share what we learned with other classes.
