Sanders’ Scribbles

We checked out books from the library for the first time this week.  Our library day is on Wednesday, so please be sure to send the books back Wednesday morning.

Centers

This week, during centers, we have been working to plot our houses on a map of Auburn.  The children used the map key to help locate their street.  We also were busy making books at writing center, building cities in blocks and making our covers for our USA fact books.

Shared Reading

This week, we have been reading books about families.  We read several books about brothers, sisters, moms, dad, grandparents and members of our extended families.  With these books, we worked on rhyming words, beginning sounds and a page for our math journal in which we figured out how many people were in our families.

Theme

We talked about why we needed addresses and phone numbers this week.  The class decided that we need addresses and phone numbers so that the mailman and our friends could find us at our houses.  We also began to web some of the things that the children knew about Auburn.  After beginning our web, we brainstormed a list of places and things we could build to make part of Auburn in our classroom.  Hopefully, we will negotiate a building or thing, make our plan and begin building next week.

Shared Journals

This week, the children really did a good job getting selecting titles for their stories.  Almost all of the children have shared and been written about.  I will save the journals for our parent conference so that we can talk about what you will see when I send them home.
