Sanders’ Scribbles

We have had a good and busy week in our classroom.  I had to be out on Wednesday and was proud to hear from my substitute that the class did a beautiful job.

 Centers

This week, added some new centers.  We now have a discovery, big book and snack center.  Also during centers, the children have been working on projects and their first page of our USA fact book.

 Shared Reading

We finished our author study on Kevin Henkes.  This week, the children began to notice that some of the characters appeared in several books.  We also did some rhyming, alliteration and phonemic awareness activities.  Finally, to finish this author study, the children will be voting on their favorite Kevin Henkes book.

 Theme

This week, the children made their houses out of construction paper.  We also began to talk about neighborhoods.  During our study of neighborhoods, we noticed that there were not many good books on this topic.  To solve this problem, we wrote our own neighborhood book.  The children  did such a wonderful job writing this book.  We are now working on the illustrations.  When this book is complete, we will share it with you.

 Shared Journals

The children are doing a great job with sharing for journal time.  Right now, we are working on giving our stories titles.  This is a very hard thing for the children to do.  They want their title to tell their entire story.  It is hard for them to think of short 1 or 2 word names for their journal story.  We will continue to work on this.
