This week, we celebrated Djokia’s birthday by making muffins during center time.  The children loved them and we had fun wishing her a happy day.  We also finished the DIBELS testing.  This test will help me monitor your child’s reading progress. 

Centers

We added science center to our list of centers.  Right now, the children are exploring chemistry as they make things change.  We are using water and food color and seeing what happens when they mix these two liquids.  Like real scientist, the children are forming ideas and testing them. They are also drawing pictures and writing about their discoveries.

Shared Reading

In Shared Reading, we continued reading books about ourselves.  We learned that we can all do special things.  We made a class chart that lists the things each of us could do and we are turning the chart into a class book.  We also read a book about birthdays and made a class birthday book.  Look for these books to visit your house soon so that your child can share them with you. 

Theme

For theme this week, we read books about making choices.  The children are doing a great job of identifying good and bad choices.  We made a T chart of good and bad choices. We also looked at our class problem-solving chart and did role playing to learn the steps the children should take to solve conflicts in the classroom.

Shared Journals

We began writing in our journals this week.  The children did a fantastic job.  They really love sharing and have surprised me with the good questions that they are asking.  I will be sending home their journals at the end of September so that you can see them.

We are collecting coins to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.  Please send in what you can.

Thank you to Kyle’s family for sending in the bag of supplies.  I know that many of you have sent in things so thanks to all who have helped stock our classroom full of needed supplies!

Friday, Sept. 2 – STAR night 5 – 7 p.m.  Come join the fun!!!!!  We will have math game, science activities and playground fun all for a 50 c donation.
