Sanders’
Scribbles

This week has been a
fast and exciting one. On Tuesday, we found out that AEEC won the Intel Scholastic
National School of Distinction Award in the area of Literacy
Achievement. On
Wednesay, we had news crews at the school to do interviews and
tape clips. On Thursday, we celebrated Erin’s birthday and took
school pictures. Whew!
Centers
This week, we
continued to do chemistry at science center.
The children got a chance to mix wet and dry ingredients to
make their own play-doh. This recipe was much different from the one we used last week
and gave the children the chance to make their own decisions about
how much flour, salt, water and oil to mix.
They also got the chance to problem-solve when their dough
was too wet or too dry. We
will continue making play-doh until everyone gets the chance to
make some for themselves.

Reading
We began our author
study on Kevin Henkes. He is a great author and the children really love his books.
Each day, we read a different book and recorded it on a
story elements chart. On
this chart, we noted the title, characters and the plot.
We also
did some
activities with initial sounds and began making another class
book. When the book
is completed, I will be sending it home so that the children can
share it with you.
Theme
Our focus this week
was on homes. We
talked about why we needed homes, the different types of homes
that could be found in the USA, and the types of homes you might
find in Auburn, AL. Then,
graphed the type of house we lived in.
The children are doing such a great job!

Journals
The children are
doing a great job with writing in their journals.
At the end of September, I will send the journals home so
that you can see your child’s hard work.
