Sanders’ Scribbles

We took our first trip to the science lab this week!  The children loved it.  We spent an hour building marble ramps, working with light, magnets, sand, rice, water and many other things.  We will go to the science lab every other week.

Centers

This week, during centers, we finished making the covers for our USA fact book.  In addition, we also opened the math and game centers.

Shared Reading

Our focus book was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.  In this story, the lower case letters race to climb up the coconut tree.  All goes well until the last letter climbs the tree.  Then letters a-z all fall into a heap.  The children love reading this rhyming alphabet book!  With this book, we sorted capital and lower case letters, worked on letter recognition and rhyming words.  We also learned two new chants and began making a class alphabet book!

Theme

We read 3 books about Auburn.  Then, using the information from the books, we finished our web of what we Know about Auburn.  The children also brainstormed a list of places and things we could build to bring Auburn into our classroom.  After narrowing the list down to 4 places and things, the children voted.  With a vote of 12, the children decided to build Samford Hall in the classroom!

Shared Journals

The children have been doing an excellent job with their journals.  We focused on details this week.  The children have been trying to remember the details that were told during the sharing and use them when they draw their pictures and write their journal entry.

Important Dates and Notes:

**Each child needs to bring in a coloring book to use when they finish writing in their journal.

**We need big boxes to begin our construction projects.

**We have a classroom web site!  It is http://www.auburnschools.org/auburn_early_ed/
