Sanders’
Scribbles

Well, what can I say
except that it was Halloween week!!
Please remember that Halloween candy is not an
appropriate snack for fruit break.
Centers
We continued working
on Samford Hall. We
are now working on the roof.
This presented a real challenge as the roof’s shape is
a triangle and the boxes we were using were squares.
The children did an excellent job solving this problem.
They built a small model using pieces of cardboard and
once the details had been worked out, they used the full size
boxes to build the first roof!

Reading
Our focus book was
Pumpkin, Pumpkin. We
used this story because one of our Halloween rotations gave the
children a chance to taste foods made from pumpkins. With this story, we worked on counting syllables, initial
sounds, separating the sounds in words and counting the number
of words in sentences.
Theme
With our research on
Samford Hall, we learned that bats live in the two towers of
this building. This
really interested the children.
So, we have now begun to research bats.
So far, we have learned that they are nocturnal and that
they help us by eating the bugs and insects that bother us.

We are still working
hard on the negotiation process.
The children are doing such a good job of persuading
their friends. They
are able to state reasons for choosing a particular story. We are still working on the discussion forum so that they can
state their ideas without my interference.
