Sanders’
Scribbles

This has been such a
busy week! I have
really enjoyed talking with all of you during our conferences.
Centers
Science center was a
big hit this week with another chemistry activity.
This week, the children discovered what happened when they
mixed various materials. (food
coloring, soap, syrup, alcohol, vinegar, etc.)
We also begin taping up our boxes for Samford Hall.
Shared
Reading
Our focus book was Do
You Want to Be My Friend? By
Eric Carle. The children loved making up the story for this wordless
picture book. With
this book, we worked on opposites, initial sounds, letter
recognition and sorting. We
also read many other books about friends and talked about the
characteristics of a friend.
Theme
We began building
Samford Hall this week. As a class, we wrote a building plan. Then, using the plan as a guide, we listed all of the jobs
that we will need to do. Finally,
the children signed up for the job that they wanted to do.
We also talked about where we should put Samford Hall once
we have constructed it.

Journals
This week, we have
really been working on the negation process.
Once the children have shared their stories, we talk about
each story and try to decide which one should be written about.
During this step, the children give their opinions and
justify them by explaining why they feel the way they do.
So far, this process has been difficult.
Everyone knows what story they want to choose, but getting
them to explain why has been a challenge.
We will continue to work on this.
