Sanders’ Scribbles

“Captain, you are clear for takeoff!”  That is what we heard from the air traffic controllers today as we flew to New York.

Centers

We spent the week preparing for our trip to New York.  While the children were at centers, Miss Pettey and I worked with small groups to finish their research, build the control tower.  The children also painted and packed their suitcases.  For each job that the children finished, they were paid and added their salary to their bank accounts.

Theme

This week, we did a lot of research at theme time.  The children finished researching and presenting their airplane and airport jobs.  Each day, as new information was presented, we added the new facts to our class web.  The children also researched several possible destinations and once New York had been selected, we talked about the weather and what we would need to pack in our suitcases for our trip.  This morning, the children brought in some of the things that they needed and we packed our suitcases.  At 9:00, we arrived at the airport and bought our tickets from the ticket agents.  After going through security, the children boarded the plane.  We arrived in New York at 1:00!  It was a great flight and everyone did their job beautifully.  I will have pictures from our flight posted on the web page by the weekend!  www.auburnschools.org/auburn_early_ed/mlsanders/

Shared Reading

We read books about winter and snow this week.  Our focus story, When It Snows, posed lots of questions about what we might do if it snowed.  With this story, we worked on questions and the differences between questions and statements.  We also talked about the type of punctuation we see at the end of questions. Then we used sticky notes to answer each question in the book.  We also made our own book of words that begin with the same sound as snow and we began writing our own version of When It Snows.
