Sanders’ Scribbles

This week, I learned that one of the children in our classroom was extremely allergic to nuts.   This friend cannot even touch or come into contact with nuts.  As a result, our class will no longer be able to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches when we have sack lunches.  We will be served cheese sandwiches instead.  Please keep this in mind when ordering your child’s lunch and when packing a sandwich for your child to eat in our classroom.

Centers

With Samford Hall finally finished, the children spent center time enjoying their centers.  We had several visitors to our classroom this week.  They were observing the children at centers and were impressed with all that they do.  I have made several updates to our web page to show the many things the children do at center time.

Shared Journal

Over the next few days, I will be sending home November’s journals.  I know you will be impressed with the progress that the children are making.  Several of you have even told me that your children are writing away at home!!  Enjoy reading the journals with your child.  Don’t forget to send them back when you are finished.

Shared Reading

This week, our focus story was Mouse Mess.  The children really loved this story.  We used words from this story to practice reading simple words and segmenting the sounds in words.  We also read several other books about mice and we are working on our own version of the chant, Hungry Mouse.

Theme

We really did a lot of research on caves this week.  We learned that caves can be formed from lava, ice and water.  We have also discovered that you need a lot of equipment to explore caves.  Finally, we voted and decided to build a cave as our next project.

We have also gotten another of our Flat Aubie’s back.  This one came from Clearwater, FL.  With it was some great maps and things from the University of Miami!
