Sanders’
Scribbles

This is the last full
week before our holiday break and the children and I have been
extremely busy.
We began and completed our DIBELS testing.
Everyone in our class improved!
Also, they did a great job last week when I had to be out
and I am so proud of them.
Centers
This week, we have
been working hard making Christmas ornaments and special
presents for the children to take home. In addition, while the children were at centers, I assessed
every child on the DIBELS test.

Journal
We are working hard
on adding details to our stories.
As a story is shared, we are paying close attention to
the details. The
children are even mentioning details as one of the reasons to
choose a story during the class negotiation. Details are even
showing up in the children’s writing.
Now, many children are writing several sentences each
day. I am so
impressed with their hard work.

Reading
This week, we read
different versions of the Gingerbread Man.
To compare these different versions, we made a class
chart. So far, the
children have noticed that each story has the same basic theme
but that the characters and some of the endings are slightly
different in each version.
Math
Using gingerbread men
as a theme, we did measurement and graphing.
For measurement, we used several nonstandard units
(skittles, twizzlers, popsicle sticks, paper clips and cubes) to
measure the length of our gingerbread men.
We have also gotten
two more of our Flat Aubie’s back.
One came via E-mail!
It seems that Flat Aubie has been visiting the University
of Mississippi and New York City. Next week, I hope to be share with the children the pictures
and information that Flat Aubie brought back.
