Sanders’ Scribbles

We have had a very busy week.  We had another fire drill on Wednesday and practiced evacuating a school bus on Thursday.  The children did a great job at both drills! We also went to music, the library and the computer lab this week.  We have really gotten off to a great start!

 Centers

We added writing and computer centers to our choices this week.  The children are doing so great.  They are making books, building towers and cities, painting pictures, reading books and so much more.  Each day, I look forward to seeing what they can come up with.

 Shared Reading

In Shared Reading, we read several books about ourselves.  Through these books, we learned that we are all alike and different.  With one book, I Like Me!, we talked about all of the things we liked to do.  We also read Chrysanthemum and talked about our names.  We made a name graph and found out that Ann Archer has the longest name in our class with 9 letters in it.

Theme

For theme this week, we continued to read books on coming to school and using our manners.  We used the classroom web that we made last week to write our classroom rules.  The children decided on these rules:

1.       Take care of our things.

2.     Be safe.

3.     Respect our friends.

We are also making a class book on making good choices at school.  When it is finished, I will send it home so that your child can share it with you.

Shared Journals

We began learning about the Shared Journal process this week.  The children are coming up with some great ideas for sharing topics.  We have practiced giving our stories titles, drawing the illustrations and adding writing to our story.  We will begin writing in our own journals on Sept. 1!
