Sanders’ Scribbles

This week, we have spent a lot of time getting to know all of our new kindergarten friends.  We are learning about our friends, our classroom and all about coming to school.  It has been a lot to experience for the children but they have done exceptionally well.  I can’t wait to see them grow, learn and develop as learners and members of our community.

Also, I really enjoyed getting the chance to see all of you and talk with you at open house.  If you couldn’t come, I am sending home the information packet that was given out.  If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

Centers

The children are learning to use our choice board to choose the centers that they want to work at.  They have done such a great and are already making responsible choices.  This week, we opened art, home living, puzzle, play-dough, building, reading, block and drama center.  We will add more centers in the up coming weeks!

Shared Reading

We have read lots of books about coming to school.  We also learned some chants that will help us remember our friend’s names.  Through these books and chants, we talked about how it felt to come to school, how you should act at school, what kind of manners we need to use and the difference between good and bad choices.

Theme

In addition to reading books about school, we also read books about manners and choices.  We made a list of rules that the children thought were important, then we took that list and grouped them into categories on our first classroom web.  Next we will use this web to write our classroom rules, vote on them and sign our names to the rules.

DATES TO REMEMBER:

-Monday, August 22:  The after school program begins.
