The Ocean

Our theme this year is the Ocean!  Take a look at some of the projects we have made...

We cut strips of sheer material to look like water.  We decided to hang them from the ceiling so that our classroom would be "underwater."

Our very first project was a starfish.

Here are our baby octopi hanging.  The children voted to use balloons for the head and streamers for the eight legs.  We also listed all of the facts we learned on our octopus discovery page.

Outside of our submarine.

After many, many, many tries, we finally completed our submarine.  The submarine is in our home living center.  We use it as a "discovery tool."  There are various books about the ocean, and ocean animals in it and we travel through each ocean and discover what animal or thing we would like to study about next.

Inside of submarine.

We used Christmas lights on the inside of our submarine to make a control panel.

Polar Bear

We traveled to the arctic ocean and made a giant 6 1/2 foot female polar bear!

We decided to draw the body (each body part separately) on butcher paper, cut it out, and then stuff it.  We added "fur" to the outside and then put her together!  Her ears, and tail are made from cotton balls, and her eyes and nose are wooden balls that have been painted.

This has been the biggest project so far that the kids have made!

Killer Whale Construction

Here, Madison and Hannah are designing the body of the killer whale.

Killer Whale

Here is our baby killer whale.  She is about 6 1/2 feet long.  We learned all of the parts of an orca whale, and they are labeled.

Jellyfish

We learned about many different types of jellyfish.  They are hanging all over our room and are yellow, white, pink, green, and purple!
