Raptor Center Visit

We are fortunate to have the Southeast Alabama Raptor Center at Auburn University.  On November 1, employees from the center brought several raptors to our school.  We had a great time learning about them, and it was very exciting to see Nova, the golden eagle who flies at Auburn football games!

We were excited to see all of the birds as we entered the Tiger Den.

The experts told us what raptor means.  A raptor is a bird.

We learned that there are many kinds of raptors.  They have 3 things in common: sharp talons, hooked beaks, and they all eat meat!

This little owl is called a screech owl.  He is full grown.

This is the barn owl.  He makes a  hooting sound.

Here is the falcon.  They can fly at 200 miles per hour!

The red tailed hawks take care of us.  They eat mice and rats and help keep them from getting into our homes.

Nova, the golden eagle, was our favorite!  Golden eagles usually live in other parts of the USA.  We have bald eagles that live in our area.
