Welcome to the Tropical Rainforest! |
|
Each year, Blue Pod chooses an overall theme to study for the year. This year, we chose to study an ecosystem with more plants and animals than any place on Earth: the tropical rainforest! Through our theme, we teach all academic disciplines, and we use project work to document what the children are learning. Projects are representations of children's learning. Project work is the process of creating a project. Through project work, we are able to help children build critical thinking skills, work together, and solve problems. Below is a glimpse at our theme work for the year. Enjoy! |
| The beginning of our theme... | ||
| We began by focusing on what we know about. We learned about our town and then broadened our horizons as we looked at the globe . Check our our webs of our town, our state, and our country. | Each day, we record the weather in our town, so the children were naturally interested when asked about the weather in other parts of the world. We learned about the Equator as we looked at the globe. | We looked at maps of tropical rainforests to find out where the rainforests of the world are. We chose to learn about the Amazon rainforest because it is the biggest tropical rainforest in the world! |
|
Once we began studying about the Amazon, we learned that the rainforest is composed of four layers. There are many plants and animals that inhabit each layer of the rainforest. Below, you will learn about the layers and about some of the flora and fauna we have studied this year. |
