PIANO LAB CLASSES
Piano Lab Classes are open to both 8th and 9th grade students. Previous experience not required.
Piano Lab Classes meet alternating days all year: 2nd block WHITE
Students will learn the basics of reading / playing piano music and will perform in 4 recitals per semester 
(3 in-class recitals and 1 end-of-semester for the general public).
Students will also access and acquire music skills through Music Ace software. Fridays are often exploration, presentation and test days!
 
CALENDAR for PIANO
Recitals count for 30% of piano lab grades. 
Students are graded on performance etiquette and audience etiquette.
1st in-class piano recital on Thursday or Friday, September 6 or 7, 2007
(at least one piece and C major scale and primary chords)
2nd in-class piano recital on Thursday or Friday, October 11 or 12, 2007
(at least two pieces, C and G major scales and primary chords)
3rd in-class piano recital on Thursday or Friday, November 19 or 20, 2007
(at least two pieces - one memorized; C, G and D major scales and primary chords)
4th Open recital/end-of-the-semester on Tuesday or Wednesday, December 18 or 19, 2007.   The public is invited to attend this recital.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS
GRADES
50% - Daily Practice / Participation / Pass-offs / MUSIC ACE Ior II
30% - Recitals  
20%  - Written or verbal tests
 
HOMEWORK
Piano lab classes will very seldom have homework.
Most class requirements are met during class and at scheduled recitals.
Piano lab students should always work on their major scales and the I, IV and V chords for the scales and key signatures.
 
National Standards
Piano Lab Classes meet 6 of the 9 National Standards for Music Education.
Piano Lab classes meet Standards 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.
