REQUIREMENTS HOMEWORK CALENDAR National Standards
MUSIC, MUSICIANS & MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS CLASS (GENERAL MUSIC)
General Music Class is offered as an elective class to both 8th and 9th grade students.*
     8th grade students will receive 1 elective credit; 8th grade students will not receive Fine Arts credit
     9th grade students will receive 1/2 elective credit and 1/2 Fine Arts credit
Students will study the following music areas:
1) BASIC MUSIC ELEMENTS: sound, time and sight
2) INSTRUMENTS - band and orchestra
3) PLAYING INSTRUMENTS - hand chimes, recorders, piano, guitar
4) AMERICAN MUSICAL THEATRE - the stories of Broadway
5) MUSICAL PERIODS & COMPOSERS - Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern (20th Century)
 
REQUIREMENTS
GRADES -  Basic Music Elements, Instruments, Playing instruments, American Musical Theatre, Musical Periods & Composers, Other Related assignments and projects - both individual and group

25% - PARTICIPATION and readiness in class each day
50% - ASSIGNMENTS, PROJECTS and PRACTICE - individual and group
(listening guides, homework, instruments, vocabulary, research, Spring Musical, etc.)
25% - WRITTEN TESTS, QUIZZES, etc.

HOMEWORK / TEXTBOOK LINK
General Music classes will occasionally have homework assignments.
Most class requirements are met during class through listening activities,
times of discussion, internet research projects, and various writing assignments.
